Summary
Cameroon has secured a massive FCFA 139.2 billion (€212.35 million) financing package from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to rehabilitate the strategic Douala–Bafoussam road corridor. The agreement was signed in Bangkok, Thailand, by Economy Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey and IsDB President Dr Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings. The project will target National Road No. 5, including the Bekoko–Nkam Bridge–Bandjoun section, alongside the construction and rehabilitation of several connecting roads. Planned works also include a five-kilometre dual-carriageway extension at Douala’s western entrance, 30 kilometres of bypass roads around Bafoussam, and improvements to the Bafang–Nkondjock and Loum–Tombel–Kumba roads. The ambitious project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, accelerate the movement of agricultural produce and boost trade and economic activities across several regions. The financing, negotiated since April 2026, marks another major step in Cameroon’s development partnership with the IsDB. Source: ThePost Newspaper
