POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE IN MRC: TIRIANE BALBINE NOAH ELECTED PRESIDENT AS WILLY MENGUE REFUSES TO BACK DOWN!

A historic leadership change rocks the opposition party, but lingering questions over the convention's legality threaten to overshadow the new president's victory. Cameroon’s opposition politics has entered a dramatic new chapter following the election of Tiriane Balbine Noah as president of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC). However, her victory at the party’s third extraordinary convention on October 17, 2026, is facing continued opposition from Willy Mengue, who maintains his challenge to the legality of the gathering and its resolutions. Tiriane Balbine Noah secured an overwhelming victory, collecting 1,246 votes out of 1,286 ballots cast, according to the reported results. Her challenger, who withdrew his candidacy just three days before the convention, nevertheless received 29 votes, while 11 ballots were declared invalid. The outcome places Noah at the helm of the MRC following the resignation of Maurice Kamto, the party’s former president, and Mamadou Mota, its first vice-president. A HISTORIC FIRST FOR THE MRC Noah’s election marks a significant milestone for the opposition party, making her the first woman to occupy its presidency. She had been serving as interim president following the departure of Kamto and Mota. Her election now gives the party a new leader at a crucial moment as it looks towards the next legislative and municipal elections. For supporters, her overwhelming vote count represents an opportunity to turn the page and revitalise the party’s political ambitions. The leadership transition could also shape the MRC’s strategy as it seeks to strengthen its position on Cameroon’s political landscape. WILLY MENGUE KEEPS THE CONTROVERSY ALIVE Despite the decisive figures, the leadership question is far from settled politically. Willy Mengue continues to contest the legality of the extraordinary convention an

BREAKING: SHOCKWAVES IN MBONGE AS SEPARATIST FIGHTER ‘GENERAL MBONI’ IS REPORTEDLY KILLED IN MILITARY OPERATION

Captured commander ‘General Shaggy’ reportedly linked to intelligence that led troops to Mboni’s location in Big Butu. Tensions are mounting in Mbonge Subdivision following reports that separatist fighter known as “General” Mboni was killed during a military operation in Big Butu village, South West Region, on Monday, October 19, 2026. The reported killing has sparked fresh questions about developments within separatist ranks, particularly following the recent capture of another armed commander, “General” Shaggy, in Ekona. According to information obtained by MMI News, security forces reportedly tracked Mboni to Big Butu following intelligence allegedly provided by Shaggy, who was captured last week and has reportedly remained in military custody. Sources familiar with the operation claim that Shaggy helped security forces identify Mboni’s whereabouts, paving the way for Monday’s military action. If confirmed, the reported development could represent a significant turn in security operations in the area, where armed confrontations have repeatedly disrupted communities. However, the precise circumstances surrounding Mboni’s reported death remain unclear. MMI News has not independently verified how the operation unfolded or established the extent of Shaggy’s alleged involvement. The military has not been reported to have issued an official statement confirming the incident. MBONGE UNDER FRESH SECURITY SPOTLIGHT Big Butu, located in Mbonge Subdivision of Meme Division, is among the communities affected by the wider armed conflict in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions. The conflict has been marked by recurring clashes, kidnappings and security operations, leaving residents facing persistent uncertainty. The reported killing of Mboni now raises fresh questions about the situation on the ground and whether further operations could follow.

SOUTH WEST REGIONAL ASSEMBLY UNDER SCRUTINY: WHY WERE PRIVATE JOURNALISTS REPORTEDLY EXCLUDED FROM OCTOBER 20 MEETING?

Questions mount over transparency, public accountability and the achievements of the Special Status institution under President Zacheus Elango B. The functioning of the South West Regional Assembly has come under renewed scrutiny following reports that private media journalists were ordered out of a meeting of the institution on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, allegedly on the instructions of its President, Zacheus Elango B. The reported incident has raised questions about media freedom, public access to regional deliberations and the Assembly's commitment to transparency, particularly given the public nature of its proceedings as described in the legal framework governing the institution. Created under Cameroon's Special Status arrangements for the two English-speaking regions, the Regional Assemblies were designed to provide a platform for regional governance, deliberation and the consideration of issues affecting local communities. Their work is expected to be conducted in a manner that promotes accountability and allows citizens to understand the decisions being taken in their name. However, the reported exclusion of private journalists from Tuesday's meeting has sparked concerns about whether the South West Regional Assembly is fully embracing these principles. WHY EXCLUDE PRIVATE MEDIA? According to the information available, the Assembly's President has reportedly maintained a practice of inviting only public media representatives to cover its meetings. The reported decision to remove private journalists from the October 20 session has now brought that practice into sharper focus. If confirmed, the incident raises an important question: why should access to the deliberations of a public institution depend on whether a journalist works for a state-owned or privately owned media organisation?

DION NGUTE IN BAMENDA: A PEACE MISSION DOOMED TO FAIL? *The Big Question Haunting Cameroon’s Anglophone Crisis!

10 years of conflict. 6,500 lives lost. 700,000 people displaced. And still, no peace! Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute has returned to Bamenda with a renewed push for community dialogue. But with separatist leaders absent, armed groups still influential, and no clearly defined roadmap to end the conflict, one explosive question remains: Can Cameroon truly achieve peace by negotiating without the very actors at the heart of the war? Cameroon’s Anglophone crisis has dragged on for nearly a decade, leaving behind a devastating trail of death, displacement, and shattered dreams. Now, as Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute launches another dialogue initiative in Bamenda and Buea, hopes for peace are once again being raised. But beneath the official speeches and carefully staged ceremonies lies a much harder question: Is this the beginning of a genuine breakthrough—or just another political exercise that will change little on the ground? The reported figures are alarming: 6,500 civilians killed, 700,000 people displaced, and 488,000 children deprived of education. Nearly a decade of bloodshed has left communities traumatized, families torn apart, and thousands of children facing an uncertain future. Yet, despite years of government initiatives and repeated calls for peace, the conflict continues to cast a dark shadow over Cameroon’s two English-speaking regions. This week, Dion Ngute returned to Bamenda with what authorities describe as a renewed approach to reconciliation: community dialogue. But in neighbourhoods such as Ntumbaw and Nkwen, the question is whether Yaoundé is finally ready to listen to the people who can influence the course of the conflict—or whether Cameroon is once again repeating a familiar political ritual while hoping for a different outcome.

CAMEROON: SEPARATIVE LEADER REPORTEDLY CAPTURED ALIVE IN EKONA - SWR

Separatist commander General Shaggy, identified as Ekia Fritz, has reportedly been captured alive in Ekona by Cameroon's Defence and Security Forces following an alleged trap. If confirmed, the reported arrest could mark a significant development in the ongoing security crisis in Cameroon's English-speaking regions. ALLEGED TRAP LEADS TO DRAMATIC CAPTURE Information circulating about the operation suggests that General Shaggy was allegedly lured into a trap by an individual identified as Okha Naseri Clovis, paving the way for his reported arrest by Cameroonian troops. The operation is said to have involved soldiers of the 21st Motorized Infantry Brigade, reportedly operating under the command of Colonel Njoya Aziz Yacouba. Although details surrounding the alleged capture remain sketchy, the report has raised questions about the circumstances that led to the commander's reported arrest and what it could mean for separatist operations in the area. A MAJOR BLOW TO SEPARATIST OPERATIONS? If the reported capture is officially confirmed, it could have significant implications for the security situation in Ekona and surrounding communities. Military and security officials could potentially seek information about separatist movements, operational networks, and the locations of fighters believed to be operating from forest hideouts. However, it remains unclear whether the reported capture has yielded any intelligence or whether it will directly affect ongoing military operations.

BREAKING: Cameroon Faces Looming Fish Shortage as Import Quota Is Slashed by 50% — Prices Could Skyrocket Before Christmas!

With its annual import quota slashed from 200,000 to 100,000 tonnes, Congelcam, Cameroon’s frozen fish giant, warns of potential empty market stalls by late November. As supplies dwindle, millions of households could face rising prices for one of the country’s most important food staples. Cameroon could be heading towards a serious fish supply crisis, and the warning signs are already flashing red! Congelcam S.A., the frozen fish giant that dominates approximately 80% of Cameroon’s fish import market, says its stocks have been exhausted following a dramatic reduction in its annual import quota by the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries (MINEPIA). The company’s annual quota was slashed from 200,000 tonnes in 2025 to just 100,000 tonnes in 2026—a staggering 50% reduction. Now, with its massive storage facilities in Douala reportedly empty, the company warns that fish could become increasingly scarce in markets across the country from late November. And the nightmare may not stop at empty market stalls. Consumers could soon be forced to pay more for fish, putting additional pressure on already stretched household budgets just as the end-of-year festivities approach. Source: Camer.be

POST-ELECTION CRISIS IN CAMEROON: 66 CONVICTED BY YAOUNDÉ MILITARY COURT, SOME DETAINEES SET TO WALK FREE!

Nearly a year after their arrest over protests linked to the disputed election, 66 people have been sentenced, while others remain in detention awaiting trial. The verdict is in, bringing a glimmer of hope for the imminent release of some detainees caught up in Cameroon's post-election crisis. Following a hearing on October 8, 2026, the Yaoundé Military Court convicted 66 people of various offences and handed down sentences ranging from suspended prison terms to several months behind bars. Meanwhile, other detainees are still waiting to face trial. Six to 15 Months in Prison: Verdict Changes Everything! After spending nearly a year behind bars, the 66 defendants have finally learned their fate. According to reports by RFI, they were found guilty of several offences, including “spreading false news,” “rebellion,” “unlawful assembly,” and “failure to possess a national identity card.” The sentences vary depending on the offence and the individual case. Some of those convicted received six-month prison sentences suspended, while others were handed six to 15 months of effective imprisonment. For several detainees, the verdict offers the prospect of imminent release. Some have already spent more time in detention than the prison terms imposed on them. Their release could therefore take place soon, subject to the procedures governing the implementation of the court's decisions. For others, however, the countdown continues. Those who received the longest sentences will have to spend several more months behind bars. Defence Lawyers Refuse to Give Up Although the convictions have been handed down, the legal battle is far from over. Defence lawyers intend to explore all available legal avenues in a bid to secure more favourable outcomes for their clients. Source: journalduCameroun.com

CLÉMENT ATANGANA’S FINAL JOURNEY HOME: CAMEROON PREPARES TO WELCOME BACK ITS LATE CONSTITUTIONAL COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Cameroon is preparing to receive the remains of Clément Atangana, the country’s first President of the Constitutional Council, who died in Paris on October 4, 2026, at the age of 85. His body was placed in a coffin on October 14 at the American Hospital of Neuilly-sur-Seine in France, ahead of its expected return to Yaoundé. The exact arrival date has not yet been officially announced. Born on September 20, 1941, in Ekoumeyeck, in the Nyong-et-So’o Division, Atangana devoted nearly 58 years to the judiciary. He served in several courts across Cameroon before being appointed to head the Constitutional Council by President Paul Biya on February 7, 2018. During his eight-year tenure, he presided over electoral disputes arising from the 2018 and 2025 presidential elections. The Council rejected challenges brought by opposition candidates Maurice Kamto and Issa Tchiroma Bakary, decisions that sparked contrasting reactions across the country. While supporters viewed Atangana as a guardian of institutional stability, critics questioned the Council’s handling of electoral disputes, making his tenure a subject of intense public debate. His death has also triggered controversy, with the Federation of Beti Traditional Patriarchal Associations condemning what it described as disrespectful and tribalistic comments directed at the late judicial figure. As preparations for his final journey continue, Cameroon faces the departure of a prominent figure whose legacy remains closely tied to the country’s constitutional and electoral history. A towering judicial career has come to an end, but the debate over Clément Atangana’s legacy is far from over.

CAMEROON’S GOLD SCANDAL! ONLY 22.3KG DECLARED FOR EXPORT AS DUBAI RECORDS OVER 15 TONNES!

A staggering gap in gold export figures is raising serious questions about Cameroon’s mining sector as President Paul Biya pushes to increase mining revenues in the 2027 state budget. On October 12, 2026, President Biya signed the framework document for preparing the 2027 state budget, calling for tighter controls on mining activities and increased contributions from gold, iron ore and bauxite exploitation. But troubling figures are casting a shadow over these ambitions. According to an analysis published on April 17, 2026, by Ahmed Zouari of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) International Secretariat, Cameroon declared just 22.3 kilograms of gold exports in 2023, while the United Arab Emirates reportedly recorded more than 15 tonnes of gold imports originating from Cameroon. The enormous discrepancy raises questions about gold traceability, export controls and potential losses in public revenue. However, the figures alone do not establish how much gold may have been illegally exported or the amount of tax revenue potentially lost. The situation became even more alarming when the Cameroon National Mining Corporation (SONAMINES) reported that not a single gram of gold was exported through formal channels in 2025, according to a meeting report published on March 19, 2026. With the government seeking to boost mining revenue in 2027, these figures highlight the urgent need for stronger oversight, transparent reporting and effective monitoring of gold production and exports. 💰 THE BIG QUESTION: If Cameroon is producing gold, why do the official export figures tell such a different story from the quantities recorded abroad? Cameroon has secured a massive FCFA 139.2 billion loan from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to rehabilitate the strategic Douala–Bafoussam highway, in a move expected to improve transportation and boost economic activities. The loan agreement, worth €212.35 million, was signed on October 13, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The project targets one of Cameroon’s most important economic corridors, linking Douala, the country’s economic capital, to Bafoussam, the capital of the West Region and a major agricultural production hub. Under the National Development Strategy 2020–2030 (SND30), the rehabilitation aims to ease traffic, improve the movement of people and goods, and facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce from the West Region to major domestic markets and neighbouring countries. With FCFA 139.2 billion now committed to the project, expectations are rising for improved road connectivity, smoother journeys and a stronger boost to trade and agricultural distribution across Cameroon.

THE HOUSE OF HORRORS: Inside Muea’s Nightmarish Killing Fields and the Normalized Silence of Cameroon’s Crisis

A Morning That Shattered Eternity The dawn of Monday, October 5, broke over Muea’s Quarter 11 in Buea with a deceptive, fragile calm. Tem Clovis rose early, stepping out into the brisk morning air, fully intending to navigate another routine day amidst the fragile rhythms of Cameroon’s conflict-scarred Southwest Region. But a sudden, chilling electric current of chaos rippled through the neighborhood barely 200 meters from his doorstep. Whispers turned into panicked shouts, and shouts into a tide of horrified humanity rushing toward the St. Andrew’s Catholic primary school field. What awaited the crowd on that dew-soaked grass was not merely a crime scene—it was a theater of absolute horror. Three lifeless bodies lay dumped like discarded trash. Driven by a dreadful, magnetic pull, Clovis surged forward through the throng, staring down into the bloodied, battered faces of the dead. In that split second, time fractured forever. Looking back up at him from the cold earth was the bruised, unrecognizable face of his identical twin brother, Tem Elvis. What follows is an explosive, chilling exposé into the dark underbelly of Muea’s security sweeps, a harrowing chronicle of state detention gone fatally wrong, and the deafening, normalized silence that shields extrajudicial terror in Cameroon's fractured Northwest and Southwest regions.

SEVERAL INJURED AS MOGHAMO EXPRESS BUS CRASHES AT DSCHANG CLIFF

A morning journey turned into a nightmare on Tuesday, October 13, after a Moghamo Express intercity bus travelling from Douala to Bamenda veered off the road at the notorious Dschang Cliff before plunging into a ditch. The accident left several passengers injured, with some rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency medical attention. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear, and no official death toll has been reported in the available information. The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety along the Dschang Cliff, a challenging stretch of road frequently associated with dangerous driving conditions. It is worth recalling that the road was recently reopened to the public after the Chinese company responsible for its renovation officially announced the completion of all works in the area. More details are expected as information about the victims and the circumstances of the accident emerges.

PAINFUL COURT RULING! OVER 100 FAMILIES FACE LOSING THEIR HOMES IN LIMBE!

PAINFUL COURT RULING! OVER 100 FAMILIES FACE LOSING THEIR HOMES IN LIMBE! A Supreme Court decision has sparked fear and confusion in Mile Four, Bonadikombo, Limbe, where more than 100 families risk losing homes they have occupied for decades. On October 12, 2026, worried residents reportedly stormed the palace of the traditional ruler, HRH David Nanyowe, seeking intervention over a land dispute involving property awarded to Namondo Alice Ekema Wilson. The affected families, some of whom have lived on the land for over 25 years, insist they have never recognised Wilson as their landlord. Among those affected is renowned mathematician and musician Akwa Usman, who says he purchased his plot in 1992 and subsequently obtained a land certificate. The dispute dates back to a 1955 lease agreement. After years of litigation, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by Blasius Njanjo in April 2023 on procedural grounds, leaving the earlier decisions in favour of Wilson standing. Residents say they have recently received summons to appear before the Gendarmerie Legion in Buea, heightening fears of possible eviction. The affected neighbourhoods reportedly include Quarters 6, 7, 8, 9 (Promise Land) and 14. Chief David Nanyowe urged residents not to panic and advised them to seek legal representation. They are now appealing to Limbe I Divisional Officer Moni Innocent Nanje and other authorities to intervene. The big question: Will the authorities step in before decades of homeownership claims turn into a heartbreaking homelessness crisis?

BREAKING: Cameroon Senate President’s Office Fires Back at Assassination Rumours Against Lamido Rey-Bouba

A wave of alarming social media reports has triggered an official response from Cameroon’s Senate, with the institution firmly dismissing claims of an alleged assassination attempt against Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye, the powerful Lamido of Rey-Bouba. The Office of the President of the Senate has moved swiftly to shut down the circulating rumours, describing the allegations as “completely false and misleading” in a communiqué dated October 12, 2026. The statement, signed by Justin Njomatchoua, Director of Cabinet of the President of the Senate, comes amid growing concern over the spread of unverified information on social media. Senate Breaks Its Silence In a strongly worded response, the Senate President’s Office urged Cameroonians to exercise caution before believing or sharing sensational claims circulating online. According to the communiqué, the allegations have no basis, and the public is being called upon to avoid spreading information that could fuel unnecessary tension.
